As absurd as the picture above is – a man, a vent, a generator, lost in the jungle. The picture captures exactly what the Colombian jungle experience has provided to 30Reasons. We were able to capture incredible footage, experienced outstanding nature, - at least for me - unbearable temperatures, threatening drama and joyful rewards for all the effort and challenges we had to go through. This trip was made possible by Tucunare Lodge Owner Alejandro Diaz and the Colombian tourist authority Procolombia inviting us, Javier Guevara who organized the week’s experience and kept a close eye on me throughout the trip making sure I was safe at all times, Endomobil GmbH generously sponsoring our flights and some production cost and my wife Mathanja who made sure I survived all physical challenges in acceptable physical state. It was not only Javier Guevara that told me: "The jungle will change you". And I got more and more exited with every time I heard that saying. At some stage of our preparations, I passed the point of no return and it became clear I would be going no matter what. Despite all the fishing dreams potentially coming true, I simply had to find out what the jungle would do to me.
The Colombian jungle is probably the most extreme destination we thought of yet. Alejandro Diaz keeps a careful eye on preserving the wild and offering his customers a chance to experience the true jungle. This is not your five star luxury full air condition leisure resort. You need to dare going there – if you do, you are rewarded with exceptional fishery and gorgeous surroundings deep in the jungle. Where the jungle is still what it is meant to be: rich source and worst enemy of all life forms at the same time.

Still, even though the rain seasons water had taken away the former serpentine path and wooden stairs on the steep bank, they had built ramps for our Cabana No.2 and the common hut where meals were served making Tucunare the first accessible jungle lodge I know of.
It nevertheless remains a full-blown adventure and once we had arrived successfully, Javier carefully stated what accompanied the rest of our trip: “So far, so good!” His wife had been very concerned and even some of his friends who know the lodge had warned Javier not to kill me – to which he had responded with a careful: ”That’s not the plan.” We had to watch it…
Some of my friends thought and still think I am crazy. Of course neither of us planned a suicidal experience. Based on all rightful concerns, we took all necessary precautions to balance the challenges.
On top of that I rented an Inmarsat telephone so we can contact our sponsor Global Rescue, the number one provider of expedition safety around the globe. They had offered to cover uncontrollable risks by signing us up for full rescue-, medical- and security services during the next year. Just the thought of added back-up safety continues to feel wonderful - Ex-Special Forces and top medical experts will get us out of everywhere including civil unrest, war and medical emergency.
What can I say: In terms of fish it was a great success, the new 3D-printed line hand adaptation was a first break-through, the tested Loop Cross SW 9 by 9 will accompany me a long time, I am back in one piece, full of fond memories despite the – for me brutal – climate, jungle wasps, scorpions, snakes, exhausting temperatures and all obstacles you have to expect when deciding to visit the real jungle. In the 8,5 years Tucunare Lodge serves adventurous fishermen no serious accidents or injuries have occurred – and so even I in my comparably fragile constitution made it.
As it turned out there was another insurance as important as Global Rescue: this was a trip put together and made possible by people that wanted to realize my dream from the bottom of their hearts. Although I had a dangerous heat-related breakdown, it was the constant care and caution of Javier, Alejandro and his team of guides that kept us out of trouble effectively.
Looking back I think I found my personal interpretation of Alejandro’s and Javier’s statement that the jungle would change me. I guess we all have thought about simplicity at some point in our life. Getting a real picture for such simplicity is a different story – and in the long run I guess this experience and pictures will influence my personal path.
There is another change the jungle, Alejandro and Javier caused. It is a change of our project. Not only have we faced my absolute limits, we also managed them. Now one thing is clear: If we can make it here, we can make it anywhere!
For everything else, you will have to check previews and wait for the final movie. I have no words that would allow to appropriately describe what we experienced. It was a life changing trip.

Tan absurda imagen la de arriba - un hombre, un ventilador, un generador eléctrico y perdido en la selva. La imagen captura exactamente lo que nuestra experiencia en la selva colombiana ha proporcionado a nuestro proyecto 30Reasons (30Razones). Fuimos capaces de capturar imágenes increíbles, experimentamos la naturaleza en su esplendor, - al menos para mí - temperaturas insoportables, drama, recompensas y muchas alegrías por todo el esfuerzo y los desafíos que tuvimos que pasar. Esta oferta tan generosa ha llevado a 30Razones a un nivel mucho mas alto. Mantengan sus ojos muy abiertos que algunas imágenes de este increíble viaje se publicaran pronto.
Este viaje fue posible gracias al propietario de Tucunare Lodge, Alejandro Díaz, también a la autoridad colombiana de turismo Procolombia y Javier Guevara, quien organizó el viaje ytoda la experiencia de la semana, también se mantuvo atento a lo largo del viaje asegurándose de que yo este sano y salvo en todo momento. Endomobil GmbH uno de nuestros generosos auspiciantes ellos nos ayudaron con nuestros pasajes aéreos y algunos costos de producción y mi esposa Mathanja que se aseguró de que sobreviva a todos los desafíos en un estado físico aceptable. No solamente Javier Guevara fue el que me dijo: "La selva te cambiará". Y cada vez más me emocionaba cuando escuchaba esa frase. En algún momento de nuestros preparativos, pasé el punto de no retorno y quedó claro que me iría a esta aventura sin importar nada. A pesar de que todos mis sueños de pesca se realizarían realidad, simplemente tenía que averiguar como la selva me cambiaría.
La selva colombiana es probablemente el destino más extremo que hemos pensado hasta el momento. Alejandro Díaz se mantiene muy atento en la preservación de la naturaleza y ofrece a sus clientes la oportunidad de experimentar la verdadera selva. Este no es su lodge cinco estrellas, de lujo y con aire acondicionado. Tienes que atreverte a ir allí - si lo haces, serás recompensado con una pesca excepcional y un entorno precioso en lo profundo de la selva. Donde la selva sigue siendo lo que está destinada a ser: una fuente muy rica y el peor enemigo de todas las formas de vida al mismo tiempo.

A pesar de que la fuerte temporada de lluvias invernales se habían llevado los escalones de madera que ayudaban a subir la empinada orilla al lodge, ellos también habían construido rampas para nuestra cabaña Nº 2 y la cabaña del area social donde se servían las comidas, convirtiendo a Tucunare Lodgeen el primer lodge de selva accesible que he escuchado.
Sin embargo, sigue siendo una aventura a toda prueba y una a la que llegamos con éxito, Javier cuidadosamente menciono una frase que nos acompañaría el resto de nuestro viaje: “Por el momento, todo bien!" Su esposa había estado muy preocupado e incluso algunos de sus amigos que conocen el Lodge habían advertido a Javier que no me matara - a lo que el había respondido: "Ese no es el plan". Iremos con cuidado…
Algunos de mis amigos pensaron y todavía piensan que estoy loco. Por supuesto que ninguno de nosotros dos planeó una experiencia suicida. En base a todas las preocupaciones legítimas, tomamos todas las precauciones necesarias para equilibrar los desafíos.
Además, alquilé un teléfono Inmarsat para que podamos ponernos en contacto con nuestro patrocinador Global Rescue, el proveedor número uno de seguridad en todo el mundo. Ellos ofrecieron cubrir todo riesgo incontrolable, mediante su auspicio con unservicio completo de rescate, servicio médico y de seguridad durante el periodo de un año. Sólo la idea de tener un respaldo seguro de servicios es algo maravilloso - Agentes de Fuerzas Especiales y los mejores médicos nos sacarán de todas partes, incluyendo disturbios civiles, guerra y emergencias médicas.
¿Qué puedo decir? En cuanto a la pesca fue un gran éxito, la nueva adaptación de la mano de línea la cual fue impresa en 3D tubo su primera verdadera prueba, la vara de pesca Loop Cross SW linea 9 de 9 pies que pusimos a prueba me acompañará por mucho tiempo, estoy de regreso en una pieza, lleno de buenos recuerdos a pesar del - brutalclima para mi condición actual, las avispas de la selva, los escorpiones, las serpientes, las temperaturas agotadoras y todos los obstáculos que usted tiene que experimentar al decidir visitar la verdadera selva. En los 8.5 años de Tucunare Lodge sirviendo a pescadores aventureros no han ocurrido ningún accidente o lesión grave - y por eso incluso yo en mi estado físico tan frágil lo hice.
Como resulto había otro seguro tan importante como Global Rescue: este fue un viaje que se realizo conjuntamente y fue posible gracias a personas que querían realizar mi sueño desde lo mas profundo de sus corazones. A pesar de que padecí de un riesgo muy peligroso relacionado con el calor, fue la constante atención y precaución de Javier, Alejandro y su equipo de guías que nos mantuvieron fuera de problemas con eficacia.
Mirando hacia atrás creo que encontré mi interpretación personal de la frase de Javier y Alejandro de que la selva me cambiaría. Supongo que todos hemos pensado en la simplicidad de nuestra vida en algún momento. Conseguir una imagen real para tal simplicidad es una historia diferente - y a la larga creo que esta experiencia e imágenes influirán en mi camino personal.
Hay otro cambio que causó la selva, Alejandro y Javier. Es un cambio de nuestro proyecto. No sólo hemos enfrentado mis límites absolutos, también los hemos manejado y afrontado. Ahora una cosa está clara: ¡Si podemos hacerlo aquí, podemos hacerlo en cualquier otro lugar!
Para todo lo demás, tendrán que esperar las imágenes que saldrán muy pronto y a que la película final sea elaborada. No tengo palabras que permitan describir adecuadamente lo que hemos experimentado. Fue un viaje que me cambiara la vida.

So absurd das Bild auch ist – ein Mann, ein Ventilator, ein Generator, verloren im Dschungel. Das Bild enthält genau, was die Erfahrung im kolumbianischen Dschungel für das 30Reasons Projekt bereithielt. Wir konnten unglaubliches Bildmaterial sammeln, erlebten herausragende Natur, - zumindest für mich – unerträgliche Temperaturen, bedrohliche Dramen und erfreuliche Belohnungen im Gegenzug für all den Aufwand und die Herausforderungen die wir meistern mussten. Dieses großzügige Geschenk hat 30Reasons in eine neue Liga befördert. Haltet die Augen für großartiges Vorschaumaterial zu dieser Reise offen das bald veröffentlicht wird.
Dieses Abenteuer wurde ermöglicht durch die Einladung des Eigentümers der Tucunare Lodge Alejandro Diaz und der kolumbianischen Tourismusbehörde Procolombia, Javier Guevara, der diese Erfahrung organisierte und während der gesamten Woche für meine Sicherheit sorgte, Endomobil GmbH, welche großzügig die Flüge und einen Teil der Produktionskosten sponserte und meine Frau Mathanja, die sicherstellte, dass ich alle physischen Herausforderungen in akzeptablem Zustand überlebte. Und glaubt mir, der Dschungel hat einiges in mir ausgelöst – in vielerlei Hinsicht…
Es war nicht nur Javier Guevara der mir sagte: "Der Dschungel wird Dich ändern". Und ich wurde immer neugieriger je öfter ich diesen Ausspruch hörte. An einem bestimmten Punkt in unseren Vorbereitungen war klar, dass ich diesen Trip egal wie machen würde. Ganz abgesehen von der Erfüllung aller fischereilichen Träume musste ich einfach herausfinden, was der Dschungel mit mir machen würde.
Der kolumbianische Dschungel ist sicherlich das extremste Ziel welches wir bis jetzt in Erwägung gezogen haben. Alejandro Diaz achtet sorgsam darauf die Wildnis zu erhalten und seinen Gästen eine echte Dschungelerfahrung zu ermöglichen. Es ist kein 5-Sterne voll klimatisiertes Luxus-Resort. Man muss sich trauen, dorthin zu reisen – wer es wagt, wird mit einer außergewöhnlichen Fischerei und unglaublichen Umgebung tief im Dschungel belohnt. Dort, wo der Dschungel noch das ist was er sein soll: reichhaltige Quelle und schlimmster Feind jeder Lebensformen zugleich.

Dennoch, und selbst obwohl das Hochwasser der Regenzeit den vorherigen Serpentinen-Pfad und die Stufen am steilen Ufer wegerissen hatte, machen die extra an Hütten Nummer 2 und dem Gemeinschaftsunterstand (wo Mahlzeiten serviert werden) gebauten Rampen Tucunare zur ersten rollstuhlgerechten Dschungel Lodge von der ich weiß.
Es bleibt aber ein ausgewachsenes Abenteuer. Als wir erfolgreich angekommen waren, sprach Javier vorsichtig aus, was uns auf dem Rest der Reise immer begleiten sollte: “Soweit, so gut!” Seine Frau war sehr beunruhigt und einige Freunde von ihm die bereits in der Lodge waren hatten ihn sogar gewarnt mich nicht umzubringen – wozu er vorsichtig geantwortet hatte: “Das ist nicht der Plan.” Wir mussten wirklich aufpassen…
Einige meiner Freunde dachten, und denken noch immer, ich sei verrückt. Natürlich plante keiner von uns eine selbstmörderische Erfahrung. Basierend auf allen völlig berechtigten Bedenken waren wir sicher, alle notwendigen Vorkehrungen getroffen zu haben um den absehbaren Gefahren zu begegnen.
Darüber hinaus mietete ich ein Inmarsat Telefon damit wir unseren Sponsor Global Rescue kontaktieren konnten, die Nummer 1 für Expeditionssicherheit rund um die Erde. Sie hatten angeboten die weniger kontrollierbaren Risiken abzusichern, indem Sie uns für ein Jahr die vollständigen Rettungs-, medizinischen und Sicherheitsservices zur Verfügung stellten. Allein der Gedanke an dieses zusätzliche Sicherheitspolster fühlt sich wunderbar an – Ex-Elitesoldaten und medizinische Experten werden uns überall herausholen einschließlich Unruhen, Krieg und medizinischen Notfällen.
Was bleibt zu berichten: Hinsichtlich der Fische war es ein großer Erfolg, die neue 3D-gedruckte Schnurhandadaption war ein echter Durchbruch, die getestete Loop Cross SW 9 by 9 wird mich lange begleiten, ich bin in einem Stück zurück, voll wunderbarer Erinnerungen trotz des – für mich brutalen – Klimas, Dschungel Wespen, Skorpionen, Schlangen, auslaugenden Temperaturen und allen anderen Herausforderungen die es zu erwarten gilt wenn man sich entscheidet den echten Dschungel zu besuchen. In den 8,5 Jahren die die Tucunare Lodge abenteuerlustigen Anglern zur Verfügung steht sind noch nie ernstere Verletzungen oder Unfälle passiert – und so habe selbst ich in meiner vergleichsweise anfälligen Konstitution es geschafft.
Wie sich herausstellte war eine weitere Versicherung genauso wichtig wie die von Global Rescue: dies war eine Reise zusammengestellt und ermöglicht von Menschen, die meinen Traum vom Grunde ihres Herzens realisieren wollten. Obwohl ich einen gefährlichen hitzebedingten Zusammenbruch erlitt, hielt uns die andauernde Sorge und Achtsamkeit von Javier, Alejandro und seinem Team von Guides effektiv aus ernstem Ärger hinaus.
Rückblickend denke ich, habe ich meine persönliche Interpretation von Alejandro’s und Javier’s Aussage dass der Dschungel mich ändern würde gefunden. Ich glaube wir alle haben an irgendeinem Punkt unseres Lebens über Einfachheit nachgedacht. Ein wirkliches Bild dafür zu erhalten ist noch etwas anderes – und ich denke auf lange Sicht wird es meinen persönlichen Weg beeinflussen.
Und es gibt eine weitere Änderung die der Dschungel, Alejandro und Javier verursacht haben. Es ist eine Änderung unseres Projektes. Wir haben nicht nur unsere absoluten Grenzen erlebt, wir haben sie auch gemeistert. Jetzt ist eines klar: Wenn wir es dort geschafft haben, geht es überall!
Für alles Weitere müsst ihr leider auf das Vorschaumaterial ausweichen oder den endgültigen Film warten. Ich jedenfalls habe keine Worte um angemessen zu beschreiben, was wir erlebt haben. Es war eine lebensverändernde Erfahrung.
