"A year ago we didn't know what it was going to be.
But when I drove with Martin to the Bavarian town of Traunstein in summer 2015
to film the fitting of his fly fishing rod hand prosthesis, I knew that we'd encountered
something very special.
"30 Reasons" has since become a project of intense personal commitment.
We founded a private partnership company.
We filmed during sunrise at Berlin's former Tempelhof Airport.
We made SloMo - macrorecordings of „Flies“ on a ping-pong table in the garden.
In blazing heat on the Caribbean Sea in Belize we clinked bottles said "cheers"
with ice cold beers.
I am everything but a fly fisherman.
I have not fished more than three times in my life.
Fish? They have never interested me.
And I never had intensive contact with people confined to a wheelchair. Never.
This has changed. Although neither the fishing nor the disability are the actual
topics of this project.
Instead, it is about the unbroken enthusiasm and the brazen refusal to accept a
given situation. It is the combination of obsession, aggressive defiance and extraordinary
courage that makes this story so unique. Everyone is capable of anything. If only they really
want it. This is a classic tale for film.
Belize was great. Because nothing worked out for Martin - although he exposed himself to a life-threatening situation, he didn't catch any of the important fish from his list of "30 Species".
And this is exactly why we will continue.

"Vor einem Jahr war nicht klar, was es werden sollte.
Doch als ich mit Martin das erste Mal im Sommer 2015 nach Traunstein gefahren bin,
um die erste Anpassung seiner Wurfhandprothese zu dokumentieren, wusste ich,
dass wir hier etwas ganz Besonderes in den Händen halten.
"30 Reasons" hat sich zu einem Herzblutprojekt entwickelt.
Wir haben eine GbR gegründet.
Wir haben bei Sonnenaufgang auf dem Tempelhofer Flugfeld gedreht.
Wir haben SloMo - Macroaufnahmen von „Fliegen“ auf der Tischtennisplatte im
Garten hergestellt. Wir haben auf dem karibischen Meer in Belize in Gluthitze mit
eiskaltem Bier angestoßen.
Ich bin alles andere als ein Fliegenfischer.
Geangelt habe ich in meinem Leben bisher höchstens 3 Mal.
Fische? Haben mich nie interessiert.
Auch hatte ich nie intensiven Kontakt zu Menschen, die an den Rollstuhl gefesselt sind.
Nie. Das hat sich geändert. Obwohl weder das Fischen noch die Behinderung das
eigentliche Thema dieses Projekts sind.
Es ist die ungebremste Begeisterung und das unverschämte Nichtakzeptieren einer
gesetzten Situation, es ist die Kombination aus totaler Besessenheit, aggressivem Trotz
und außergewöhnlichem Mut, die diese Geschichte so einzigartig macht. Jeder kann alles.
Wenn er es nur wirklich will. Das ist klassischer Filmstoff.
Belize war großartig. Denn funktioniert hat für Martin nichts - obwohl er sich einer für ihn
lebensgefährlichen Situation ausgesetzt hat, hat er keinen der wichtigen Fische fangen können.
Und genau deshalb werden wir weitermachen.
